Camel cigarettes were introduced by R. J. Reynolds in 1913 in the United States, using a blend of Turkish and Virginia tobaccos and packaged in pre-rolled form; within one year, 425 million packs were sold. In 2005, Camel added its name to the cigarette paper and redesigned the filter on its Oriental version and introduced Turkish Silvers (an ultralight below Turkish Gold), alongside Crush and Click flavored variants. In 2013 the brand marked its 100th anniversary and had sold over 4 trillion cigarettes worldwide.
